Waiting on Wednesday: Carve the Mark – Veronica Roth

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

Here is what I’m currently waiting for!

Carve the Mark
Author: Veronica Roth
Series: (currently) Untitled Duology #1
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Publication Date: January 17th, 2017

Goodreads Summary
On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favoured by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

Why I’m Waiting

I read Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy (also now a big movie) several years back, and I’m not kidding you when I say that I absolutely loved it. It was unlike anything I had read before and was intensely gripping to the point which I devoured it in what seemed like no time whatsoever. Therefore when it was announced that she was writing a new series, it’ll be an understatement when I say I was excited about it.

The characters seem like those of which I’m going to form a special bond with and will love from the minute I read the first page. They seem super original and diverse, and if you know anything about me at all, you will know I love me some science fiction and oh my does this scream science fiction.
I know Veronica is a fantastic writer who can create exceptional characters, worlds and plots, so I already know I’m going to love it without even having read a single word from the inside of the book. And you want to know what the best part is? It’s released next month! Now that is what I like to hear!!!!!!

What books are you super mega excited for? Let me know below.
