Fairyloot Unboxing – February 2017

Hello and welcome to my Fairyloot unboxing for the month of February! Fairyloot is a monthly young adult book subscription box where once a month you receive a newly released YA book and several bookish items relating to the theme of the month. This month’s theme was ‘Emperors and Fugitives’ and was said to be perfect for those who are fans of Rebel of the Sands, Guardians of the Galaxy and Throne of Glass. And I am a fan of all of these things, so I was like yes please!
*would just like to say that I am not affiliated with Fairyloot in any way, I just like doing unboxings*

So, let’s get on with the unboxing.16833389_10210834808459403_604550192_o

So much exciting stuff that goes perfectly with the theme of this month. One of the things I love about Fairyloot is that the majority of the stuff we get every month is stuff that I’m actually going to use, so it makes it all so much more enjoyable!

The ‘spoiler card’ (as I call it) is just as beautiful as ever this month, and exactly what I envisioned for this theme. The ‘#FairyLoot06886’ is my reading buddy hashtag for the month, which is a really cool feature where someone else gets the same hashtag and you can find each other and buddy up with them whilst reading the book of the month.

The first things is a full size ‘Kalusian Sunset’ candle, made exclusively by ‘Happy Piranha’ (their Etsy shopped is here and it is beautiful) and is named by our author of the month and is said to make sense after reading the book. I’m not sure what the scent is but I am very fond of it.

Next is a Rebel of the Sands pouch, hand lettered exclusively for Fairyloot by Alisse Courtier. I was very much in need of a new pencil case for university, so this comes in handy and it’s Rebel of the Sands and it’s beautiful and I love it.

Yes that is Groot and yes he is absolutely adorable! This is baby Groot Guardians of the Galaxy  keychain from Funko and although i’m probably not going to use it on my keys for fear of losing him, he is super adorable. (He is currently residing hung over my bed, making sure no monsters get me whilst I sleep.)

My do I love bath bombs. This Celestial Gunpowder bath bomb was created exclusively by Bathing Beauties and although it looks lovely and made my bath a very beautiful baby pink, I wasn’t a fan of the scent. It wasn’t what I expected it to smell like and to me personally, wasn’t a very appealing scent for me. However, I did leave my skin nice and soft so I suppose that’s always a plus!

If there is one thing I love it’s a bookmark, especially those with super cool alien girls on them that look like they could totally kick some arse. This is exclusively designed by the ladies at Till and Dill, and is going to be the perfect accessory for any future sci-fi reads.

Read at Midnight made this exclusive Illuminae quote coaster and it’s just great. I read Illimuae in the late days of December and I fell completely in love with it, so when I saw this I got a little excited.

Now my most prized possession and most loved thing in all of my life right now (besides my dog and my family of course) and that is this double sided Manon and Dorian art print designed by Taratjah. If you didn’t know Manon and Dorian are my favourite characters in the Throne of Glass series so when I saw this I wanted to thank the gods for sending me such a blessed item. Taratjah is such a talented artist and I love every single character she creates and if I could I’d totally kiss her for being so talented and amazing. 16833330_10210834810739460_1138987589_o

Like always there are promotional items in the box, which I personally love as they’re always so cute. Here we have a secret sampler for The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emma Barr, which came in a lovely little envelope – a lovely touch, and also a discount for MyBookmark.16880833_10210834810699459_1137347953_o

Finally the book and that is Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza. I was so excited when I saw that this was the book for this month as it I discovered it quite recently and loved the sound of it. It’s a combination of fantasy and sci-fi and the message the author is trying to portray about not conforming to other people’s expectations of gender, skin tone and generally life but instead conforming to your own expectations just makes me love this book and author already. It’s such a lovely message and I’m so glad that Rhoda has written this book already and I can not wait to read it and see how much I’ll love it.

Empress of a Thousand Skies Goodreads Summary
CROWN PRINCESS RHIANNON TA’AN WANTS VENGEANCE.

The only surviving heir to an ancient Kalusian dynasty, RHEE has spent her life training to destroy the people who killed her family. Now, on the eve of her coronation, the time has finally come for Rhee to claim her throne – and her revenge.
ALYOSHA is a Wraetan who has risen above his war refugee origins to find fame as the dashing star of a DroneVision show. Despite his popularity, Aly struggles with anti-Wraetan prejudices and the pressure of being perfect in the public eye.

Their paths collide with one brutal act of violence: Rhee is attacked, barely escaping with her life. Aly is blamed for her presumed murder.

The princess and her accused killer are forced to go into hiding – even as a war between planets is waged in Rhee’s name. But soon, Rhee and Aly discover that the assassination attempt is just one part of a sinister plot. Bound together by an evil that only they can stop, the two fugitives must join forces to save the galaxy.

In this exhilarating debut for fans of Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy, RHODA BELLEZA crafts a powerful saga of vengeance, warfare, and the true meaning of legacy.

I was super happy with this box and everything that I got with it. The theme for March is ‘Myths and Monsters’ and is said that if you love lost mthyical cites, tales of Gods, magical creatures, dragons, phoenixes, unicorns and nephilim, then this box should be pretty perfect for you. It is also the one year anniversary of Fairyloot so it is bound to be extra special.

What we know so far:
– the box is going to be purple in honour of their anniversary,
– it will include an anniversary booklet which will include a story of how Fairyloot started, their journey and behind the scenes,
– will include 5 different items – two of which they have never featured in a box before (really intrigued to find out what they are),
– a supplier is Geeky Clean (they made the Kryptonite bath powder in the December box which smelled delicious)
– and will feature a highly anticipated book by a bestselling author. The book will be a special UK first edition, signed by the author and has sprayed pages.

I don’t know about you but this has got my cogs working and I’m not sure how I’m going to cope waiting until the end of March to receive this box. That’s the issue with this subscription box, it always leaves you wanting more!

Well, thank you as always and I’ll see you soon,
Zoe
